General No Comments »

Before kicking off your healthy detox diet, you need to consider taking some health supplements to help boost your internal detox system and really make your detox more effective. Your body will appreciate all these supplements but if you are looking for a more concentrated clean you may add other herbal supplements to your routine. If you decide to take that option you might want to talk to a qualified nutritional consultant.

Antioxidant tablets.
Milk Thistle.
Kelp drinks, juices or pills.
Essential oil blend (cold pressed seed oil consisting of omega 3 and 6).
Spirulina.
Chlorella.

Your grocery list for a detox diet

Lots of Fruit and Vegetables

All types can be included - you just need to ensure you get a wide choice of them every day. This will mean you’ll receive a much broader mix of all the potent phytochemicals (beneficial plant compounds).

Each day aim to eat at least three portions of fruit. Pick fruits of different colors each day which will help you get a broad range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. There’s lots of different ways to eat fruits - have them, between meals as snacks or in smoothies and freshly prepared juices. Small amounts of dried fruits are a good addition to a detox diet too.

Have at least three portions of vegetables daily. All varieties of vegetables are good for detoxifying. One of the vegetables you eat each day needs to be a cruciferous vegetable (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, watercress or cauliflower) as these have glucosinolates, which boost the activity of your liver’s detoxing powers - so they’re good for a liver detox into the bargain.

The best way to eat vegetables is the same as fruit - raw as part of a salad or in a fresh juice detox drink. But if do cook them just lightly steamed so that the enzymes and nutrients are preserved as much as possible. It’s also a good idea to juice vegetables because you can make a great tasting detox drink.

Rice, Cereals and Pasta

Cut down on the amount of wheat you eat and go for wheat free or wholegrain alternatives. Brown rice, buckwheat, soy beans, organic wholegrain of wheat free bread, rye bread or crackers, wholemeal bread, rice cakes and wholegrain wheat free pasta are all acceptable.

Oats contain smaller amounts of gluten than wheat so it’s OK to have them in your diet but are best avoided if you are prone to bloating or you have a gluten sensitivity.

Whole grains provide fiber, most of the B vitamins and vitamin E, essential minerals like iron, magnesium, potassium, selenium and zinc, complex carbohydrate and small amounts of essential oils. This whole range of nutritional foods, provide slow-releasing carbohydrates, which fuel your body a lot longer. Aim to include one portion of grains, bread or pasta in every main meal.

Pulses and sprouted beans

Pulses provide protein as well as B vitamins, iron, zinc and fiber. For best results with pulses buy them dry, soak and cook them as per the directions on the pack. Prepared and tinned pulses are fine but give them a good rinse in clean water if they have been stored in salty water.

You can include any variety of bean sprouts, beans and lentils on the liver detox diet. Sprouted beans especially are a very healthy option on a detox diet. They’re a great source of enzymes, vitamins and minerals as well as protein. Most stores carry sprouting beans or there’s always the health food shop. Or you can always grow them at home.

What are the complications of gastric bypass surgery?

General No Comments »

Gastric bypass surgery has helped many overweight individuals lose weight so they could enjoy healthy lifestyles and have lower risks of serious diseases like heart disease and diabetes. However, it is important to be aware of some of the common complications of gastric bypass surgery.

A few of them are:

Fortunately, most of the symptoms are easily treated by adhering to dietary guidelines given by the surgeon. Of course, that often takes a good deal of self-discipline. The effects of not being self-disciplined are so uncomfortable, though, that most gastric bypass patients prefer to follow their dietary instructions than to suffer through the consequences.

For most of the complications, doctors are easily able to pinpoint and diagnose the problem and then offer the appropriate treatment. Sometimes a minor surgical operation may be necessary, but most of the time the treatment consists of lifestyle changes and nothing more.

To avoid these complications, the best solution is to follow the instructions given by your doctor to the very detail. If you are experiencing any of these problems at an extreme level, don’t hesitate to call your doctor to seek treatment.

General No Comments »

If you’re planning to do a detox, you should take the following supplements that will help your body’s detox system and aid the whole detox process. Your body will appreciate all these supplements but if you’re also interested in a detox drink there are many other herbal remedies you can include in your regime. If you want to do that you should take it up with a qualified health therapist.

Anti oxidants.
Milk Thistle.
Kelp drinks, juices or pills.
Essential oils high in omega 3, 6 and 9.
Spirulina.
Chlorella.

Your grocery list for a detox diet

Lots of Fruit and Vegetables

Feel free to have any fruits and vegetables - you just need to ensure you get a wide choice of them every day. That way you will get a healthier range of the health boosting phytochemicals (beneficial plant substances).

You should eat at least 3 pieces of fruit a day. Pick fruits of different colors each day which will help you get a broad range of nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants. You can be eating fruit all day, fruit deserts are great, for snacks in between meals or mixed up and juiced or in smoothies. A piece of dried fruit is a great snack too.

The same again with vegetables - aim for three servings a day. Feel free to try every and all veggies as part of the detoxification process. At least one of your daily veggies should be a cruciferous vegetable (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts or watercress) as these carry glucosinolates, which are well known for increasing the power of your liver’s detoxifying enzymes, so you get a thorough liver detox also.

Try to eat your vegetables fresh and raw in crispy fresh salads or lightly steamed to get the most nutrients from them. Juicing vegetables is a great way to eat them as they make a great accompanyment to any liver detox diet.

Reduce the quantities of wheat in your diet and go for wheat free or wholegrain alternatives. Quinoa, millet, brown rice, organic wholegrain of wheat free bread, 100 per cent rye bread, pumpernickel bread, rye crackers, wheat-free and whole grain pasta and oatcakes are all included.

Oats have much less gluten than wheat does and are acceptable as part of your detox diet but they may bloat you if you have bloating issues or you’re sensitive to gluten.

Wholegrains supply a lot of fiber vitamins (such as the B vitamins and vitamin E), essential minerals like iron, magnesium, potassium, selenium and zinc, complex carbs (the good stuff) and some essential oils. All these fruits, veggies and whole grains, give us slow release carbohydrates, which gradually release energy into your body. Eat one portion of whole grain food in each proper meal.

Sprouted Beans and Pulses

Pulses provide protein as well as B vitamins, zinc, iron and lots of fiber. The best way to eat them is buy them dry, then soak and cook them as per the directions on the pack. Tinned pulses are a useful stand-by but make sure you drain them and wash them well if they have been canned in salty water.

You can include any variety of lentils and bean sprouts when you’re following a detox diet. Sprouted beans in particular are a great choice on a detox diet. They are rich in valuable enzymes, protein, vitamins and minerals. Most stores carry sprouting beans or there’s always the health food shop. You could of course, grow you own at home.

Losing Weight Safely

General No Comments »

Before starting a new weight loss program, you will need to check with your doctor. It is a good idea to get a complete physical and check-up.  Also let your doctor know of family health history and current medications you are taking.   Ask him or her what weight you should be at.  These factors can influence his or her advice to you on losing weight safely.  Also, ask them for suggestions on an exercise program that works for your current physical shape and age.

Once you have decided on a good weight loss program, you will need to set realistic goals for yourself.  You can access via the Internet, charts that indicate weight standards as well as Body Mass Index (BMI) for your age and height.  A good rule of thumb is a loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Fasting and fad diets that promote “fast weight loss” are a myth and will result in shocking your body and could have negative effects on your health.   Remember, it took a good amount of time to put the weight on; you will have to be patient to get it off.  Get into the mindset that you are doing this as a lifestyle to be healthier physically and emotionally.  Enlist family and friends as a support network to help you achieve your goals.  Look to the positive in that you are doing something for you.  If you have a slip up, don’t beat yourself up for it, just get back on that proverbial horse.

Lose weight by walking.  Progress, not perfection.

Get Fit Faster Without Cardio

General No Comments »

Get Fit Faster Without Cardio

In this article I want to explore a different alternative to cardio workouts and how you can get in shape faster in less time.

Most doctors and "fitness" gurus will argue that you must have cardio in your exercise routine. If you want to burn fat it is considered an absolute necessity to do cardio. The question is do you really need cardio to get lean and in great shape? Many of the trimmest, leanest and fit people (men and women) NEVER do any kind of "traditional" cardio.

What is normal or traditional cardio? When you say cardio to most people they think of long monotonous sessions on the treadmill, or a staionary bike or pumping away on an elliptical machine next to the smoothie bar at a high tech fitness gym. These are the typical exercises that most people consider to be cardio and are the general types of exercises they do as "cardio". Most people get
bored to death with this routine and quit after a couple of months.

A truer definition of "cardio" however can be considered any routine or exercise that builds up the cardiovascular system. If it gets your heart pumping and your breathing to deepen then it’s cardio! So if you take a set of challenging weights and do 15 clean and presses (which means you are lifting it from the floor up to the shoulders and then pressing it overhead) believe me your heart rate will be elevated probably to 80% of its recommended max and you will be breathing hard-just as if you had done 10 sets of wind sprints. (which incidentally is far more effective at burning fat than jogging is)

After the 10 C&P next move on to 15 reps of one armed snatches or swings with freeweights or a kettlebell and then feel your legs turn to rubber, your heart racing and lungs gasping for breath. Cardio once again! Nobody can seriously claim that this is not cardio. You are definitely training your heart! Despite people thinking this is just weight training you are also fullfilling your cardio exercise needs here as well.

These types of interval, variable full body exercises recommended above will save you time and also have the added benefit of strengthening and conditioning almost every muscle in your body as well as the heart. The same thing cannot be said for sitting on a stationary bicycle in front of the TV doing the recommended boring, monotonous "cardio". If you are able to read or watch TV while doing your workout then you are probably not doing it with the necessary intensity or concentration to burn fat and build muscle.

I am not against cardio just traditional cardio the way it is usually recommended. If you really want to burn fat and strengthen your cardiovascular system at the same time give your traditional cardio routines a rest for a couple of months. Start training with full body, resistance training workouts that work all the major muscle groups and you will see yourself get leaner, more defined and your abs will begin to show through what used to be ugly belly fat.

Learn more about designing a workout and training program that really works to get you that fit and beautiful body you deserve here:

Menopause Symptoms Don’t Have To Include Weigt Gain

General No Comments »

Menopause is a fact of female life. All women will go through it. Many women will get to experience the dark side of the condition, while others will only experience moderate irritation at worst, and still others (likely the majority) will probably feel nothing whatsoever and coast through the whole experience, unaware to it other than the unmistakable cessation of menstrual periods.

With health risks, illnesses and life threatening conditions on the increase, it’s fundamental that women are aware of the symptoms of menopause and how their effects will impact her, and make sure she’s ready for the issues that might spring up and the many different options that are available to them.

What May Happen During The Menopause

As you get close to menopause age, your body reduces the production of progesterone and estrogen, which means menstruation will end soon. This, in turn, is what brings on menopause symptoms.

Some of these may be short-term, such as hot flashes, fatigue, night sweats, loss of interest in sex and headaches. There are others however which are more long term, such as vaginal sensitivity and urinary problems, and may become permanent but are not life-threatening, and may in all likelihood be cleared up or at least relieved by one of the many different natural remedies for menopause.

There are however some serious issues related to the decrease in progesterone and estrogen during menopause that could be hazardous which may not get noticed, until you notice them as a problem. One of the main hazards at menopause is the condition osteoporosis. This is where bones become weak and can be very serious and potentially life threatening. There’s also a greater risk of contracting other serious diseases after the decline in estrogen production are coronary heart disease which can be the cause of heart attacks, cerebrovascular disease which can lead to strokes, and certain cancers.

On a more positive note, there are many medical and natural remedies for menopause depending on your symptoms; including hormone therapy (HRT), herbal HRT, to nutritional menopause supplements and from dietary changes to beneficial exercises.

HRT has been widely used by a huge number of of women across the globe, but the debate surrounding it is misleading and still raging, and the guidelines on the way it should be prescribed have altered in view of this recent research.

Reviewing Herbal Menopause Supplements

Lots of different herbal remedies are in widespread use most of which can offer relief from menopause symtoms and increased protection against specific health conditions.

However, getting to grips with the advice spouted by many of the different medical professions is to say the least misleading, so it’s crucial that each woman deliberating over something like HRT is walked through all of her choices, and discusses these with her healthcare provider to fully appreciate what each menopause treatment can offer, and to weight up any prospective benefits against any potential perils.

Stop Sweating Dead In Its Tracks

General No Comments »

without regard to how serious are the symptoms of sweating too much, the most criticalthat has to be done to decrease sweating under arms is to remove your underarm hair. This hygiene measure is recommended in order to prevent the number of bacteria in the area to increase significantly. The multiplication of bacteria is far easier in conditions that is made from hair and sweat.

Next, people who want to learn how to stop sweat have to realize that readily available anti perspirants and often even prescription quality deodorants are only good for mild to moderate hyperhidrosis. When the symptoms become worse, it is considered wise to look up other options such as surgical interventions. Botox injections or ongoing natural remedies. The surgical intervention that is recommended for excessive sweating is named endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. It consists in cutting a portion of the nerve that is getting the message from the brain that causes the sweat gland to emit greater levels of sweat than are required.

This is a good way to stop sweating hands, since it is permanent. However in many situations, this surgical procedure could cause the appearance of compensative hyperhidrosis. What that means is, you could see reduced underarm sweat by using endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, but they might start experiencing the same problem in other areas of the body. If these new parts of the body are less visible, then the patients might actually consider that the problem has been partially solved. However, this new sweating might happen to an area which is even worse than the initial problem, so after all that, you might find it better to avoid surgery in the first place

Botox injections are very efficient, but do not offer permanent results, the fact is that these things present a sinister problem . Moreover, the price is rather high and you’ll have a hard time getting an insurance company to cover it for you. If it was my choice, I’d select an easy, simple to perform natural remedy any day.
