Fat Loss And Fad Diets – A Match Made In Heaven?

General Add comments

If you follow a fad diet and it helps you lose weight, what is all the fuss about? What could possibly be wrong with that?

You must have seen many advertisements on the internet, on TV and in magazines that it only takes a few days to secure a huge weight loss.

But is this weight loss really possible? Firstly, it is, but there is a huge but (pardon the pun) – in almost every instance the weight loss from a fad diet is due to the loss of water, and as such, it is generally temporary. Our bodies are made up of a large percentage of water so as soon as your body rehydrates itself you will quickly recover the lost weight.

There are many reasons why a fad diet is not good for you.

A fad diet usually concentrates on getting you to focus on a single food type, avoiding all others. This means you miss out on some vital nutrition that you would otherwise have if you followed a balanced diet.

More often than not, these fad diets will advise you to take vitamins and supplements to make up for all the nutritional deficiencies. But your body is built in such a way that it needs food in order to absorb the nutrients from vitamins and supplements. Many of the foods that help you absorb these nutrients are the ones that are not included on fad diets.

Fad diets are usually so restrictive and unappetizing that after a day or so, you will begin having overwhelming cravings for foods that you cannot have, thus making it unlikely that you will be able to follow through with the fad diet. This quitting will also cause your self esteem to drop as you beat yourself up for not having the willpower to stick to the diet

Fad diets are only temporary solutions to your weight challenges. Even if you do follow through to the end with a fad diet you have not made permanent healthy changes to the way you handle food in your life. Fad dieters tend to be yo-yo dieters that go back and forth between extreme low-calorie fad diets to periods of bingeing on food groups that were missing from the fad diet. It becomes a roller coaster of gaining and losing, and it is the same pounds being gained or lost.

No matter what you see in the media about quick weight loss fad diets, realize that these diets are never a long term solution to your weight challenges.

The best way to lose weight and keep it off, so you never have to diet again is to eat a variety of healthy foods, avoid overeating, and do regular exercise. This simple formula is as old as the hills, and works every time.
