If you’re anything like me, you’ve no doubt tried pretty much every diet out there but with little or no success. What is it with diets that simply don’t work? A lot of people still believe the myth that dieting by eating less will help with weight loss. The truth is that when we cut down on the food we eat we are at risk for gaining weight. We are designed to regard less food consumption with starvation. When we intentionally deprive our bodies of food we trigger our body’s starvation preservation mode.
To help maintain a healthy weight we need to eat have diets that have more complex carbohydrates (like fruits and veg, cereals etc) and individuals who are overweight follow diets that have a lot more fat and starchy carbs. Understanding what studies tell us about what contributes to weight loss is important when designing a weight loss plan, and being aware of what foods are high in cholesterol will help us lose weight and look after our health at the same time.
So what is the best way to lose weight? Well, lifestyle and eating habits contribute greatly to gaining weight and the weight gain was not over night but took years to accumulate. Because it took a long time to gain the weight, it’s likely to take some time to get back to your healthy weight as well. People who don’t understand the balance between a healthy diet, getting plenty of water, exercising and getting proper amounts of sleep are easy pickings to those pushing the new fad diet, pill or slimming program.
All it takes is a quick browse round your local newsagent to find the latest fad diet or weight loss plan. Because most individuals today have been programmed to want everything now, it’s much easier to think (or even believe) that a magic does exist that can burn off fat virtually overnight, than to accept that we have power to re-structure our lives and live healthier longer lives where being overweight is in the dim and distant past.
Diets will fail because they do not teach a balance within your body. Most diets simply don’t work because some are structured around making the promoter or some company money rather than structuring a weight loss plan or program that will actually assist a person to lose weight.
It is a known fact that individuals who are carrying excess weight are more likely to succumb to illnesses and other life threatening health conditions due to being overweight. Saturated fat consumption is one of the major reasons for excess body fat.
People have been taught for far too long that they need to eat a lot less or watch every last calorie in order to shed those excess pounds. Believe it or not our bodies are more than able to manage weight if we give our bodies what is needed it needs to stay healthy - such as proper amounts of sleep, plenty of water, good and nutritious foods, and daily physical activity.
Losing weight is not simply about watching what you eat, you also need to avoid eating in excess. Healthy portions of healthy foods are vital to losing weight. Equally important to losing weight is to keep physically active.. Our bodies respond well to physical exertion!
